Our Mission

That God’s name be glorified in Japan

“For from the rising of the sun to its setting my name will be great among the nations…”
Malachi 1:11

Our Strategy

To cross cultures and proclaim the name of Jesus to the unreached people of Japan.

How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard?”
Romans 10:14

  • We are not entering Japan with the mindset that we are the experts. Rather, we are partnering with an established organization, local to Japan, Japan Mission. We will learn from and minister alongside local leaders in order to best reach the Japanese for Christ.

  • We will be teaching conversational English as a means to share the gospel.

English Evangelism has proven to be an effective means of outreach. One survey showed that 40% of Japanese pastors made their first contact with Christianity through an English class! Students, who would not normally attend church, come to learn English and by doing so, come into contact with Christians and are introduced to the gospel.

Teaching English is a natural and purposeful way to build relationships and use as a door for evangelism.

  • Most of the 7,800 churches in Japan have an attendance of fewer than 30 people and struggle to survive. These churches are surrounded by people in need of counseling, social support, quality childcare, care for the elderly and effective education. Japan Mission workers and resources help to empower many churches to meet these needs and establish a connection with people – thereby helping them reach people in their communities for Christ.

  • In order to minister effectively long-term, Gretchen and I believe learning the language is of utmost importance. The Japanese language is considered one of the most difficult to learn in the world and has been one of the biggest barriers to mission work in Japan.

Therefore, part of our missions strategy is to devote a large amount of focus on language acquisition.

  • The Great Commission calls us to speak the gospel in every activity and to every person in all circles of our life. Gretchen and I will have the unique opportunity to come alongside local Japanese in their everyday lives and share the gospel with them.
